Denis Private Island earns two accolades at international hotel awards

Denis Private Island has added a pair of international awards to its resumé, taking top Indian Ocean honours in two categories.

With 25 free-standing cottages and a distinction for being more of a remote island retreat than typical hotel, Denis was named the World Luxury Hotel Awards’ Best Luxury Romantic property, as well as Best Luxury Boutique property.

The awards provide a certain validation for the island’s ownership, Denis Private Island PR, Branding and Communications Manager Nicole St Ange said, given the leap it took in developing a unique brand of sustainable tourism on the island.

“Denis doesn’t stake its claim to being a luxury property, but we strongly believe that luxury is a concept that can be applied in many different ways,” St Ange said. “On Denis, you have an incredible freedom combined with this immersion in both nature and isolation. We believe that’s a luxury in its own right and it’s great that others agree as demonstrated by these awards.”

Denis’ small size and various environmental initiatives lends to its intimate and romantic atmosphere, St Ange added. “Being able to enjoy a guilt-free meal together that you know was grown and prepared sustainably all within walking distance, or switching on lights that are in part powered by the sun, or playing in the staff cricket match held on the grass runway, that’s all a big part of why guests can come here and feel so relaxed.”

The WLHA winners were announced on 10th November in a black-tie gala ceremony at the Ayana Resort & Spa in Bali, Indonesia, following public online voting. The ceremony was attended by over 350 guests hailing from more than 100 countries. Next year’s WLHA ceremony will be held in Finland.
